About Lindsay

Lindsay Polega-Quigley is fighting corruption in the courtroom. It’s what she’ll do in Tallahassee to lower costs for Pinellas families.

Lindsay Polega-Quigley knows what it means to stretch every dollar, to worry about healthcare costs, and to work hard. She learned early that to survive a broken system, you must become your own. She’s a self-made professional who has never forgotten the lessons her grandfather taught her. Raised in a family of Irish immigrants, he worked as a custodian at his state capitol, at a funeral home, and at the local meat market to earn his education, then went on to become a history and civics teacher. His example taught her that no job is beneath you, all kinds of education opens doors, and service to your community matters.

Whether he was teaching in the classroom, helping a neighbor, or serving his community, he believes, as Lindsay does, that our country only works when ordinary people step up and take responsibility for making it better. As Lindsay watched Florida families struggle with rising insurance costs, housing costs, and healthcare expenses while politicians focused on special interests instead of solutions, she realized it was her turn to step up.

Like her grandfather before her, Lindsay worked many jobs to put herself through school and pursue her own dream of becoming a lawyer. She became a lawyer to fight for justice, but, when she got into practice, what she saw troubled her. She watched insurance companies deny legitimate claims to homeowners who had lost everything, dragging out litigation until people gave up. She saw the same companies turn around and pay massive settlements in dubious cases because the cost of going to trial exceeded the cost of a check. Fraud was weaponized on both sides of the courtroom. The system isn't broken by accident. It's broken by design, by powerful interests who benefit from the confusion, and by a legislature that takes their money and looks the other way.

Lindsay knows families and members of our community are working hard to give their friends and loved ones chances they never had. It’s why she’s running for the Florida House of Representatives because the community she chose — the community she loves — deserves a fighter in Tallahassee who knows how the system actually works, and isn't afraid to fix a broken system.

Priorities

An attorney who has held the powerful accountable.

In Tallahassee, Lindsay will take those experiences and stand up for us by:

Tallahassee is full of lobbyists who represent multinational companies or organizations who are traded on the New York Stock exchange. Lindsay will be a fierce advocate for the local businesses in our community. She’ll work to bring their voices, challenges, and stories to the House Floor and put their needs and the workers they employ first.

Over the last eight years Florida’s top leaders have used culture wars to divide our state and advance a radical agenda that has taken away civil rights and voting rights for Black, Brown, and LGBTQ+ Floridians. Lindsay will use every skill she has to stand-up to these attacks and ensure our state’s constitution protects everyone equally.

In Tallahassee there is a pay to play culture that is driving up costs on families. Over the last eight years politicians in Tallahassee have mis-spent settlements from Medicaid fraud, bailed out publicly traded companies, and raided trust funds designed to lower housing costs. Lindsay will vote against these back room deals that make billionaires money by making working families pay more.

She’ll stop the practice in Tallahassee of providing billions of tax payer dollars to bail out insurance companies who endlessly raise premiums and then deny claims when families need them most.

Around 4 million Floridians rely on Medicaid to get the healthcare they need – many of them are seniors and working families – Lindsay will vote to expand this program so families and seniors can get the care they need when they need it most.

Florida is currently ranked last in the nation for teacher pay. It’s why class sizes are exploding, kids aren’t getting the attention they deserve, and teachers are leaving. Lindsay will vote to fund our schools and teacher salaries.

Pinellas County is one of the most densely populated parts of Florida. It needs funding from Tallahassee and input from local leaders to ensure we have efficient transportation systems that are built based on input from local leaders.

Gun violence has impacted every community in Florida. Lindsay will support common sense gun reform to include background checks, keeping guns out of the hands of criminals, and requiring safe storage to keep our communities, schools, and families safe.

Over the last eight years billionaires and anti worker organizations have worked to decimate unions in Florida. The reality is the right to organize is protected under the U.S. Constitution and organized labor built Florida’s economy. Lindsay will stand-up to ensure every Floridian has the right to join a union

“I’ve watched Lindsay Polega-Quigley show up for this community long before she ever decided to run for office. She’s represented minors navigating Florida’s cruel judicial bypass process, organized and educated hundreds of people on reproductive rights, and fought alongside us to pass Amendment 4. This is someone who lives these issues every day. Florida needs more people like Lindsay in Tallahassee, and I’m proud to endorse her for House District 60.”
